Based on Chapter 7 of the book entitled “March to Maturity: Grounded and Built” by Dr. Wendy Sproul, this lesson discusses issues involved in grounding and building on Love. It explores love as a requirement for the believer, and discusses God’s command for us to love Him and one another. It explores the main ways and spheres in which God has commanded us to love Him and introduces students to aspects of the Personhood of God

 

. Objectives

 

At the end of this lesson the student will:

 

  • Learn about God’s directive for us to love Him and others
  • Understand critical aspects of learning to love in the maturing process.
  • Understand the meanings of biblical terms such as the heart, mind, soul and strength and how they relate to God’s commands for us to exercise love.
  • Be able to identify the four ways in which God has instructed us to Love Him. .
  • Gain insight into aspects of God’s Personhood and strategies to cultivate Love for Him.

Exercise: Relationship versus Worship?

Ask Students to report what they learned from lesson 5. Use this discussion to Segway into a discussion of their understanding of the difference (and similarities) between worship and relationship. Indicate to them that God created us for relationship with Him because He loved us and that God wants our worship to emanate from Love.

Introduce students to critical issues in learning to love as part of the grounding and building process.

Discuss love as the reason for our creation.

Explain to students about the four ways or spheres of our beings and lives which God is asking us to love Him.

Let students talk about what they think the word “love “means. Let them relate it to the love of God. Distinguish between love as an act of will and a direct creation from God as opposed to an emotional response.
