Based on Chapter 2 of the book entitled “March to Maturity: Grounded and Built” by Dr. Wendy
Sproul, this lesson discusses issues in the grounding and building processes such as the type of
material which we choose to build on; the bases for grounding and building and outlines
prerequisites for engaging in the grounding and building venture.

Objectives

At the end of this lesson the student will:

  • Be able to distinguish between the characteristics of shifting vs. firm foundations
  • Learn about the 4 bases for grounding and building presented in Scriptures
  • Be able to describe some of the prerequisites for effective grounding and building given in
    Scriptures such as: discipline, commitment, knowledge and skills, deliberate and strategic
    action, and participation.

Duration: 50 Minutes

Exercise: On what are you Grounded and Built – 26-28?
Ask Students to report what they learned from lesson 1. Use this discussion to Segway into the
discussion of building on sand vs. rock as told in the parable found in Matt 7:24-27.

4 Bases for Grounding and building- 28
Ask students to read verses which establish the four bases for grounding and building identified
in scripture.

Important Prerequisites for Grounding and Building – 28

Describe and discuss each of the following prerequisites for grounding and building. Allow
students to insert their own experiences into this discussion.

  • Time as a Prerequisite for Grounding and Building – 29 – 31
  • Discipline as a Prerequisite for Grounding and Building – 31-39
  • Commitment as a Prerequisite for Grounding and Building – 39 – 54
  • Knowledge and Skills as Prerequisites for Grounding and Building – 54 – 56
  • Deliberate Strategic Action as a Prerequisite for Grounding and Building – 56 – 67
  • Participation as a Prerequisite for Grounding and Building – 67 – 68
  • God’s Participation as a Prerequisite for Grounding and Building – 68 -87

Ask students to comment on what they have learned so far.
